Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has stated the Enugu State government will continue to prioritize disaster management in the state.

He made this known today at the South East regional conference and the inauguration ceremony of the Society of Professional Disaster Risk Managers of Nigeria (SOPDRIMN), held at the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus.

Represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, Governor Ugwuanyi said as the government had always taken the issues of the welfare, wellbeing and safety of the people of the state very seriously, it was always ready to decisively deal with any disaster situation that would arise in the state.

While noting that no one prayed for disasters to come, however, as this was part of human existence, the state was always promoting preventive measures as part of its proactiveness, while also effectively tackling disaster situations through relevant state agencies, aimed at mitigating the effects on the people.

He said “We are here to affirm our total commitment to issues of disaster occurrence, mitigation and management. We have been doing it in many ways and are ready to help and support stakeholders like SOPDRIMN, in their operations, as the state government will always engage in partnerships that are result oriented for the good of all.”

Speaking further, the Governor observed that with the times being particularly disaster prone, as the global insecurity in terrorism and other social insecurity situations have been worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic, it therefore should be of utmost concern for everyone to be disaster conscious as a way to manage the delicate and vulnerable situations the world has found itself.

Meanwhile in her welcome speech, the South East Zonal Coordinator of the society, Ogoamaka Ndukwe expressed her profound joy that the long-awaited day was finally a reality and thanked everyone that had found it worthy to be part of that history.

Others who spoke all harped on the need for people to be more safety conscious and be involved in all issues of disaster management as the fall outs are usually widespread in its effects on the social and physical infrastructures of the society.

Safety and disaster management professionals, practitioners and groups like the Federal Fire Service, Road Safety, Civil Defence, among others were in attendance.

IN RARE REUNION, GOV. SOLUDO HOSTS HIS PRIMARY 3 TEACHER

Published

on

Below is a personal account of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s account of hosting his primary three teacher, at the Government House, Awka:

I had the rare privilege of hosting my Primary three (3) class teacher today at the Governor’s lodge, Amawbia. Lady (Dr) Mebirim, from Ahiazu Mbaise, taught me at Nigercem Primary School, Nkalagu, in today’s Ebonyi State.

It is true that the reward of Teachers is in heaven. However, I always tell my friends that it is good to, atleast, give them advance payment here on earth first.

Mrs. Mebirim took me through nosltagic reminiscence of my days as a Primary 3 pupil. I am glad to have her around, she didn’t forget to remind me of the need to remain a “good boy”.

In all you do, never forget your Teacher. I remember clearly all my Primary school Teachers; Mr. Aguwa from Mbaise, taught me in Primary one, Mr. Odoh from Izza mgbo taught me in Primary two, of course Mrs. Mebirim from Mbaise taught me in Primary three, Mr. Agu from Udi taught me in Primary four, Mr. Nwaukwa from Ngwa taught me in primary five, then Mr. Chukwulozie from Ihiala taught me in Primary six. My Headmaster was Mr. I. Chineke.

I cherish these respected persons for their roles in shaping who I have become today. May God bless them immensely.

As GERTY Celebrates!

Published

on

It is a glorious moment of excitement, joy, and happiness to friends, family, and us at WORDSandSHOTS as Gertrude Wordshot Amaechi Ugwele, the amiable wife of our founder and Chief Executive, Wordshot Amaechi Ugwele, celebrates her birthday today.

Gerty, as she is fondly called by many, is always a delightful encounter, who is as doting as she is dutiful, hence her presence in our man’s life is a gift as precious as the life it takes to experience and appreciate her pricelessness. That is why he is Wordshot and she is Wordshotess!

Indeed, we celebrate her because her humanity knows no bound. We celebrate her because she is as loving and caring a mother, as she is lovable as a friend.

Cheers to our special one, a rare gem whose general dispositions easily lend her to the world.

Congratulations!
